About the Team:
The team began its activities in 2004 on Professor Michał Głowiński’s own initiative. He was its leader until 2007. Our joint work takes into account internal differentiation and we wish to overcome excessively specialized divisions in literary studies and to develop a new language. This assumption has been verified in practice, as evidenced by the rich and versatile scholarly activities of the team members. Our interests and objectives can generally be defined by the following disciplines: literary sociology (Dr. Grzegorz Wołowiec), drama theory and interpretation (Prof. Jacek Kopciński), comparative literature (Dr. Anna Sobieska), Holocaust literature (Dr. Dorota Krawczyńska), the history of literary theory, particularly the movement called the New Criticism (Dr. Krzysztof Gajewski), autobiography and the studies of the literary narrator crisis (Dr. Katarzyna Chmielewska), feminist criticism (Dr. Agnieszka Mrozik).
In most cases, the subject of our inquiry comprises literature and culture of the twentieth century. Publications by the team members refer to problems connected with the interests mentioned above. Among the published works, there are extensive monographs and collections of studies, conference papers, chapters in edited volumes and articles in the leading Polish scholarly journals, as well as various shorter essays and book reviews. Also, one needs to mention publications addressed to the general public, like the textbook of twentieth-century Polish literature.
The team members conduct extensive educational activities, which include teaching associated with the Institute, namely with its Doctoral Program, graduate schools, and its partner – the Academy of the Humanities. In addition, our team’s scholars have distinguished themselves as lecturers affiliated with Warsaw’s two universities: the University of Warsaw and Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University. The team meetings are attended by scholars, acting sometimes as speakers, who are not part of the team.
