The Interdisciplinary Research Group “Socialist Poland and the Global South” began its activities in fall 2023. On December 16, 2025, the Scientific Council approved its formal affiliation with the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The group examines the connections between socialist Eastern European countries and the Global South after World War II, analyzing anti-colonial solidarity, literary and artistic exchanges, architectural collaborations, and educational partnerships. The group also examines issues of racism and inequality in relations between these regions of the world. It organizes seminars and open debates and collaborates with national and international research initiatives. In December 2025, the group launched a series of discussions entitled “Global Solidarity: Archives of the Future” in collaboration with “Dziennik Literacki” (Literary Daily). In 2026, it is preparing a cluster entitled “Close Encounters: Socialist Poland and the Decolonization of the Global South in the Long 1960s” for the journal “Konteksty. Polska Sztuka Ludowa” (Contexts: Polish Folk Art).
