On 18–19 September 2026, an international conference devoted to the relationship between the Parisian avant-garde and artists and writers from East-Central Europe active in France after the First World War will be held at the Polish Library in Paris and the Maison de la Recherche at Sorbonne University. The conference is inspired by the life and work of Jan Brzękowski, a poet, novelist and critic associated with Parisian artistic circles. The topics discussed will include the experience of exile, artists’ multilingualism and biculturalism, networks of artistic collaboration, the role of cultural mediators and the fate of dispersed émigré archives.
The event is organised by the Polish Library in Paris and the University of Warsaw in collaboration with the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
